Ultrasonic Clamp-On Flow Meters are a popular solution for measuring the flow of liquids in pipes without the need for intrusive installations. The wall-mount variant of these devices offers added convenience and versatility, making them ideal for a wide range of industrial applications.

How It Works

Wall-mount ultrasonic clamp-on flow meters utilize the principle of ultrasonic sound waves to determine the flow rate within a pipe. The meter is mounted on the wall near the pipeline, and the transducers are clamped onto the exterior of the pipe. These transducers send and receive ultrasonic pulses through the pipe wall and the flowing fluid inside.

There are two primary measurement methods used:

  1. Transit-Time Method: This is the most common technique, where ultrasonic waves are sent in both the direction of the flow and against it. The time difference between these two signals is used to calculate the flow rate.
  2. Doppler Effect: This method is used when the fluid contains particulates or bubbles. The transducer sends a signal into the flow, which gets reflected back by the particulates. The frequency shift of the reflected wave is then used to determine the flow velocity.

Advantages

Non-Intrusive Installation: Since the transducers are clamped onto the outside of the pipe, there is no need to cut into the pipe or stop the flow, making installation quick, easy, and safe.

Versatility: These meters can be used on a wide variety of pipe materials and sizes, from small metal pipes to large plastic ones.

Minimal Maintenance: With no moving parts and no direct contact with the fluid, ultrasonic clamp-on flow meters are durable and require little maintenance over time.

Accuracy: They provide accurate measurements in both clean and slightly contaminated fluids, with typical accuracies of ±1% to ±2%.

Applications

Wall-mount ultrasonic clamp-on flow meters are used across many industries including:

Water and Wastewater Management: For monitoring flow in pipes without risking contamination.

HVAC Systems: To measure the flow of water in heating and cooling systems.

Chemical Processing: Where corrosive fluids are involved, and direct contact with the fluid should be avoided.

Oil and Gas: In non-intrusive flow measurement to reduce the risk of leaks.

Wall-Mount Ultrasonic Clamp-On Flow Meters offer an efficient, reliable, and non-invasive way to measure the flow of liquids in a wide variety of settings. Their ease of installation and minimal maintenance make them an attractive option for industries requiring precise flow measurements without the need for pipe modifications.
